Fallon Health and Worcester Red Sox announce new, fan-centric elements of the ‘Strike Out Hunger’ campaign

$50,000 guaranteed season commitment for second year in a row

Worcester, Mass., May 11, 2022—Fallon Health and the Worcester Red Sox are once again teaming up to make a difference in the fight against hunger in the local community. This season, the partners will build on their shared commitment to the health and well-being of the community through two newly announced initiatives to the ‘Strike Out Hunger’ campaign.

‘Strike Out Hunger,’ is sponsored by Fallon and raised $50,000 for the Worcester County Food Bank during the WooSox inaugural season in 2021. In 2022, Fallon will again donate $50 dollars for every home game strikeout thrown by the WooSox with a guaranteed season commitment of $50,000. At the end of year two, Fallon’s total contribution will have reached $100,000.

New for 2022, Fallon is also announcing two new initiatives that will engage WooSox fans in combating food insecurity:

  • Food drives: Held on Fallon Family Funday Sundays, fans can donate non-perishable food items in the specially marked Fallon Health bins located at Fallon Health Square.
  • ‘K cards’: Handed out at the Fallon table in Fallon Health Square at Gate A—the premier entrance to Polar Park— fans are encouraged to hold up the educational cards during the game to celebrate Woo Sox strikeouts.

“In Worcester County, 1 in 10 people don’t have enough healthy food to eat,” said Richard Burke, President and CEO of Fallon Health. “Strike Out Hunger is an opportunity for Fallon to live up to our mission of improving health and inspiring hope by making a meaningful difference in people’s lives. We are proud to take on the important issue of food insecurity and hope others will join us in helping those struggling with hunger.”

Richard Burke and our friends at Fallon Health are again stepping up to the plate to help those in need,” said WooSox President Dr. Charles A. Steinberg.  “Donating $100,000 to help address food insecurity is a remarkable gesture of generosity, and we thank Fallon Health for their community spirit and collaborative partnership.”

“More of our neighbors are in need of assistance than a year ago due to the ongoing pandemic, child tax credit payments ending, and the higher cost for food, housing and fuel,” said Jean McMurray, CEO of Worcester County Food Bank. “The loyal and generous support we receive from ‘Strike Out Hunger’ supports our network of food pantries and our neighbors during this challenging time.  We are grateful to Fallon Health and the Worcester Red Sox for stepping up to the plate to help our neighbors across Worcester County.”

Fallon is a leader in the fight against hunger, contributing more than $2.8 million to the cause through hunger relief programs and the building and stocking of food pantries.
